Welcome to p.e. with mrs. hill!Welcome to the Riverview P.E. website! I'm Ms. Reeves and I love getting to be the P.E. teacher at Riverview!
P.E. stands for Physical Education - it is a class during school where the students will be getting good exercise and developing gross motor skills (i.e. large body movements, such as throwing, striking, kicking, running) and where the students learn ways to be healthy and lead a healthy life. We use a variety of ways to teach and reinforce skills from the basic breakdown of each skill to putting each skill into games that require the students to think about the use of each skill. During P.E., the students are expected to adhere to P.E. Expectations: 1) Work Hard, 2) Play Nice, and 3) Stay Kind! One very important aspect of these rules is to display good sportsmanship! In all games we play in P.E., sportsmanship is heavliy emphasized. Sportsmanship doesn't just mean saying good game at the end, but also playing fair, not bragging, encouraging each other, helping each other up, not complaining and having fun. The dictionary puts it like this: a "Sportsman" is someone who is generous, has kindness in winning and cheerfulness in losing." - how cool that we get to practice that in P.E.! Each day the students come to P.E., they have the opportunity to earn points for their class. Here are the 5 points: 1) Entering the gym correctly - quietly and going to where the warm-up wall tells them to go. 2) Line up correctly - walk to line and line up quietly. 3) Tennis shoes - all students. No crocs, sandals, heels, or boots. 4) Follow the P.E. Expectations - sportsmanship. 5) Remembering information about skills, nutrition, and/or bones/muscles talked about during class! It is my job as a Physical Educator to teach to the National Standards set forth by the Society of Health And Physical Educators. You can find out information about this organization by visiting www.shapeamerica.org. All my lesson plans will be centered around one of the five national standards which you can see here: http://www.shapeamerica.org/standards/pe/. I'd like to thank all the parents for all their support and the choices made at home to help your children be as healthy as possible. We always say that it takes both exercise and heatlhy foods to make a healthy person. The students are always giving examples of things they do to be healthy and it is very encouraging to hear as a P.E. teacher!
